This is the Japanese term for “basics” or “fundamentals”.
In Karate training the basic or foundational techniques that are practised are referred to as KIHON. KIHON includes the practice of punches, kicks, blocks and thrusts. It also includes correct body form, breathing and stances. For the karateka, KIHON also means fostering the correct spirit and attitude to training. At Mizu Karate Academy we practise KIHON in every training session as mastery of these basics is essential to perfecting more complex movements.
